Our Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Caput Mortuum is prepared with pure Caput Mortuum pigment, a violet shaded red mineral pigment containing anhydrous iron oxide as a coloring matter. The name of this color comes from the matters which were historically the last useless remains of the manufacturing of iron salts by the ancient chemists.
The Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Caput Mortuum is made in Italy by Nila Colori and is prepared with this pure pigment, is extremely lightfast, opaque and has a good tinting strength.

These are the ingredients which are historically the main characters in the production of the watercolors and which give the best results regarding ease and pleasantness of painting. We don’t add any filler or any other organic compound, which might alter the color over time.
