We placed ourselves within the deep tradition that Italy's color masters had traced.
We stood between past and future, offering artists and restorers colors prepared with the same care as craftsmen of the past, paired with the expertise modern science provides. The ancient pigment was our inspiration, in its strong connection to the Earth and to the three kingdoms of Nature, which have always been the source from which humankind drew the materials for painting.
We believe that recovering an awareness of the origin of the materials we used could return the artist to their proper role, a medium between Earth and Sky, between Nature and Spirit, between World and Humanity. For this reason we selected the best pigments from the three kingdoms of Nature, with a preference for the mineral kingdom, the oldest, and also the one that guarantees unmatched lightfastness. We selected and purified the finest earths that human civilizations have used for millennia, and sought out the most advanced and high-performing mineral pigments. For those who loved tradition, we prepared, ourselves, the historical lakes of vegetable and animal origin to put into our colors, whose uncommon characteristics evoke centuries past.
Nearly all of our watercolors are formulated with a single pigment. Each watercolor can therefore fully express the characteristics of the pigment that makes it up: this is why our colors are perceived to have life and character. We developed a blend of vegetable gums, the main one being gum arabic, in line with the recipes of the masters: our binder, whose simplicity guarantees no interaction between components. A humectant and plasticizer such as glycerin ensures ease of lifting and elasticity of the applied color. Our watercolors are the intimate union of these components, achieved through grinding, and the pleasure of application and use is the concrete result of our work.
