It gets its name from its historical origin: it was identified as the responsible of the blue color of different wall paintings and artifacts of <strong>Maya<\/strong>\u00a0peoples (as in Bonampak), without initially understanding its natural source. After investigations and exeriments, scientists managed to discover that it&#8217;s constituted by\u00a0<strong>indigo<\/strong> (a natural deep blue pigment obtained all over the world from different plants) fixed on peculiar <strong>white clays<\/strong> which were present in the Americas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Maya Blue<\/strong> is made in Italy by Nila Colori and is prepared with this pure pigment, is <strong>moderately\u00a0lightfast<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>semi-opaque <\/strong>and\u00a0has a <strong>moderate tinting strength<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Maya Blue<\/strong>\u00a0pigment is milled with just the right amount of a mixture of<strong>\u00a0Kordofan gum arabic<\/strong> (binder) and <strong>vegetable\u00a0glycerin<\/strong>\u00a0(humectant and plasticyzer). These are the ingredients which are historically the main characters in the production of the watercolors and which give the best results regarding\u00a0<strong>ease and pleasantness of painting<\/strong>.
