This\u00a0is a\u00a0<strong>natural earth<\/strong> which has shades in the hues of <strong>brown<\/strong>: they can be more or less warm, according to their grade of calcination (the one we chose here has a quite\u00a0<strong>warm tone<\/strong>). Their color comes from a mixture of iron and manganese oxides. They&#8217;re very common all over the world, but the best varieties, like the one we chose to prepare this watercolor, come from\u00a0<strong>Cyprus<\/strong>. Like all the earths it&#8217;s used since millennia by humankind, till present times. After the Reinassance it was used a lot to create\u00a0<strong>shadows<\/strong>\u00a0or backgrounds in paintings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Burnt Umber Earth<\/strong> is made in Italy by Nila Colori and is prepared with this pure pigment, is<strong>\u00a0extremely lightfast<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>semi-opaque <\/strong>and\u00a0has a <strong>moderate tinting strength<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Burnt Umber pigment is milled with just the right amount of a mixture of<strong>\u00a0Kordofan gum arabic<\/strong> (binder) and <strong>vegetable\u00a0glycerin<\/strong>\u00a0(humectant and plasticyzer). These are the ingredients which are historically the main characters in the production of the watercolors and which give the best results regarding\u00a0<strong>ease and pleasantness of painting<\/strong>.
