Pigment Genuine Stil de Grain Lake

The Pigment Genuine Stil de Grain Lake by Nila Colori is prepared by extracting the dye from unripe buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) berries, often also called Avignon berries. They give a beautiful yellow which has traditionally been used for the preparation of pigments based on chalky earths. Depending on the method of preparation, the obtained yellow can tend more towards orange or green. Nila Colori has used the traditional process followed since centuries to prepare the Pigment Genuine Stil de Grain Lake. This pigment is warm yellow. With respect to other plant based lakes, this has a greater covering power, but it has low lightfastness.

Compatibility: Stil de grain lake will decompose if it’s used together with lime (for example in fresco).

Use: In fine arts for the preparation of watercolors, temperae and oil colors.
