Our Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Lamp Black is prepared with pure Lamp Black vegetable pigment. This pigment basically consists of amorphous carbon, i.e. a solid which is very similar to glass, without crystal structure and with a small amount of unburned oils. It is characterized by a very light and soft powder, almost impalpable, that presents itself in very little particles under the microscope.
The Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Lamp Black is made in Italy by Nila Colori and is prepared with this pure pigment, is extremely lightfast, opaque and has a good tinting strength.
Lamp Black pigment is milled with just the right amount of a mixture of Kordofan gum arabic (binder) and vegetable glycerin (humectant and plasticyzer). These are the ingredients which are historically the main characters in the production of the watercolors and which give the best results regarding ease and pleasantness of painting. We don’t add any filler or any other organic compound, which might alter the color over time.
