Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Italian Burnt Sienna by Nila Colori has been thoroughly assessed and certified by the Art and Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) for its safety, complying with the standards set by ASTM D 4236.
Our Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Italian Burnt Sienna is prepared with pure Italian Burnt Sienna inorganic mineral pigment. It is “burnt”, because obtained from the “raw” form by calcination. Raw and burnt Sienna was used as pigment since the middle of the eighteen century when the quarrying of the raw material in the area of Siena in Italy started.
Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Italian Burnt Sienna is made in Italy by Nila Colori and is prepared with this pure pigment, is natural Italian earth pigment. Its color is due to the iron and manganese oxides, is transparent and extremely lightfast.
Italian Burnt Sienna pigment is milled with just the right amount of a mixture of Kordofan gum arabic (binder) and vegetable glycerin (humectant and plasticyzer). These are the ingredients which are historically the main characters in the production of the watercolors and which give the best results regarding ease and pleasantness of painting. We don’t add any filler or any other organic compound, which might alter the color over time.
