Description

Our Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Indian Red is prepared with pure Indian Red pigment, is the red earth which comes from an island in the Indian Ocean, mainly rich of hematite, an iron oxide. The island’s beach is composed of this mineral and whenever the waves approach the shore, the sea takes red tones in an unmatched sight.

Earths are natural pigments which can turn into different shades, from yellow to red, from orange to brunette. The color depends on the chemical composition, whether there are hydroxides or simply oxygen, in addition to iron.

The Extrafine Handmade Watercolor Indian Red is made in Italy by Nila Colori and is prepared with this pure pigment, is extremely lightfast, opaque and has a moderate tinting strength with its typical cold light shade.

Indian Red pigment is milled with just the right amount of a mixture of Kordofan gum arabic (binder) and vegetable glycerin (humectant and plasticyzer). These are the ingredients which are historically the main characters in the production of the watercolors and which give the best results regarding ease and pleasantness of painting. We don’t add any filler or any other organic compound, which might alter the color over time.

Use: In fine arts for the preparation of watercolors, temperae, oil colors and acrylics.
